Press attention (and “science”)
Items about the Faldingworth nuisance have appeared in both the Rasen Mail and the Lincolnshire Echo this week. In the Rasen Mail, Mr Briggs stated that “science” shows that we cannot possibly have a problem. It seems that Mr Briggs has, overnight, become an expert in Seismology and Acoustics.
According to the resident at whose house this took place, Mr Briggs placed his new seismograph at random on the ground and said something like “not sure how it works, but I’ll read the manual later”. Apparently Mr Briggs hasn’t heard of double-blind tests, which are designed to prevent bias on the part of the experimenter, and his “science” doesn’t seem to extend much beyond self-interest - this at least is the view of one resident, who published in the Rasen Mail an open letter replying to Mr Briggs’s “statement”. We’ll try and include this statement later.
I would just like to point out that The Rasen Mail has, as usual, been misquoting people. My father (Mr D Pavia) was credited with a quote actually made by one of my neighbours. I am happy to support this campaign but I feel whoever is organising these public meetings should have words with the paper as bad misquotation could reflect badly on this campaign.
